Adaptation Suite
The Adaptation Suite is a core component of the Grid, Asset & System Platform (GrASP) and serves as the central gateway for secure and standardized data exchange between MCCS modules and external systems. These external systems can include industrial and SCADA systems , third-party applications, file-based interfaces, or even other MCCS environments located in different security zones.
As a dedicated integration and transfer layer, the Adaptation Suite is completely free of business logic. Instead, it focuses on managing protocol handling, data routing, security controls, and communication across system and network boundaries. By centralizing these capabilities, it provides a reliable foundation for data exchange throughout the MCCS ecosystem.
Use case
The Adaptation Suite is used whenever data needs to be exchanged between different systems, protocols, environments, or security zones. It enables communication between MCCS applications and external providers, supports the integration of industrial and SCADA systems , and facilitates secure data transfer across network boundaries.
Typical use cases include connecting external systems through standardized interfaces, replicating event streams between different MCCS environments, exchanging files and operational data across security zones, and providing controlled access for third-party applications to MCCS services.

The technology behind it
The Adaptation Suite is built on Apache Camel, which serves as its routing and middleware foundation. Apache Camel provides a flexible framework for defining, orchestrating, and managing complex integration flows across different systems and protocols. The platform supports a broad range of communication and transport technologies, including messaging platforms, file-based interfaces, web services, and industry-standard protocols. Through its modular architecture, the Adaptation Suite can be extended with additional protocols and integrations as new requirements emerge.
How does it work?
The Adaptation Suite works by acting as a controlled middleware layer between data producers and data consumers. Incoming data is received through protocol-specific adapters, transformed when necessary, and routed to the appropriate target system. The Data Adapter connects different protocols and systems. The Stream Replicator securely transfers Kafka streams between environments and security zones. The Stream Proxy provides controlled external access to Kafka-based services, acting as the secure boundary between MCCS and third-party systems. All transfers and integrations are configured and managed through the Flow Designer, which provides a centralized user interface and orchestration layer.
By combining protocol adaptation, routing, replication, and security controls in a single platform service, the Adaptation Suite ensures reliable, standardized, and secure data exchange across the entire MCCS ecosystem.
