Open Source, Open Minds: Utility Perspectives on Digital Collaboration

This high-Level panel at the LF Energy Summit 2025 in Aachen explores how Open Source offers new ways of efficient and scalable cooperation in the space of digitalization within utilities.

Utilities cannot deliver the energy transition alone. Yet today, much of our digital innovation is duplicated: each utility pilots the same projects, often in parallel, or remains locked into vendor-driven Systems. Central tension: Collaboration promises additive innovation, but ingrained habits, risk frameworks, and business models still pull us back to duplication and fragmentation. This panel explores how leading TSOs are navigating this tension and what it takes to move from isolated pilots toward industrial-grade, shared solutions.

Panelists: Kate Burson, Radia Capital; Mirko Pracht, 50Hertz Transmission GmbH; Tim Breitenbach, Swissgrid; Lucian Balea, Réseau de Transport d'Electricité© (RTE)
