MCCS Receives 2025 ESIG Excellence Awards
Earlier this week, the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG), the leading source of global expertise for energy systems integration and operations, announced MCCS to be one of its 2025 Excellence Awards. These awards recognize energy professionals from around the world for their contributions and accomplish- ments toward the planning and operation of energy systems across multiple pathways and geographical scales in ways that are reliable, economic and sustainable. MCCS, represented through Elia Group Product Director Mirko Pracht and his colleague Arya Fazilat, receives the award For leadership in conceptualizing a revolutionary approach to the Modular Control Center System (MCCS) of the future and contributions to G- PST
There is a reason to celebrate! On behalf of the entire MCCS Crew, Mirko Pracht and Arya Fazilat accepted an ESIG (Energy Systems Integration Group) Excellence Award. The award honors the product’s approach to breaking new ground in the field of digitalization of system operations.
ESIG’s annual awards program recognizes the energy industry’s achievements, and we’re seeing significant momentum on transformative projects in 2025,” said Mark Ahlstrom, ESIG Board of Directors President. “Announcing this year’s recipients truly demonstrates the innovation occurring among energy systems integration and opera- tions leaders, and we are proud to celebrate them all.
With MCCS, Elia und 50Hertz are developing a reliable, adaptable, and scalable modular Control Center System. That's how the companies address and will tackle the challenges posted to system operations through the Energy Transition. The focus is with speed, efficiency, flexibility – and cooperations across company boundaries. These are the key success factors of the product.
The team around Mirko Pracht, Product Director for Elia and 50Hertz, has worked together with different stakeholder across the industry including regional, national, European and international TSOs, DSOs, power generation compa- nies, research institutions, start-ups and others.

With partner TSO Energinet of Denmark, they have kicked off the implementation council "Control Room of the Fu- ture" within the Global Power System Transformation Consortium (GPST). Furthermore, together they launched the Elia Group / Energinet Research Challenge to accelerate the speed it takes for innovations from research and devel- opment to their industrialization and operations within system operations.

50Hertz & Energinet Research Challenge: Accelerating speed from Research to (System) Operations
The cooperation dynamics between research/academia and industry don’t fit the current need and speed triggered through the energy transition. Research tenders’ volumes are generally too large, and the questions asked are too complex.
