Market sounding: Dynamic Security Assessment im 50Hertz Control Center

The energy transition and the decarbonization of the energy supply have resulted in the successive integration of renewable energies and the application of modern assets based on power electronics at 50Hertz. With the simultaneous phase-out of fossil-fueled power plants, this leads to a change in dynamic system behavior. Therefore, the stability limits must be regularly assessed by 50Hertz system operations. If necessary, appropriate countermeasures shall also be derived and implemented automatically. In addition to the static security assessment, 50Hertz plans to introduce a dynamic security analysis (DSA), which will address the challenges of the modern transmission network situations regarding stability.

The conceptual design and implementation of a DSA tool is a major project consisting of several phases, which ultimately include a step-by-step integration of the solution into the day-ahead, intraday and real-time processes of 50Hertz system operations. It is planned to integrate DSA as a module in the "Modular Control Center System" (MCCS) which will be operated in the 50Hertz control center in the future.

Furthermore, since 50Hertz is in close cooperation with other TSO’s successful results and solutions can be used as blueprints by the group.

Given the size, complexity and importance of the project, 50Hertz is interested in exploring current market solutions for dynamic security analysis. 50Hertz would like to use this market exploration to assess the feasibility of implementing company-specific requirements as well as the integrability of DSA products. Therefore, we would like to ask you to answer the questions in the document "MEV_DSA_for_50Hertz.xlsx" by November 30, 2023 for our market evaluation.

The document covers the following topics:

DSA-specific questions:

  • Industry knowledge and experience with DSA
  • RMS calculations
  • Dynamization of network models
  • Frequency-domain calculation (modal analysis)
  • Long-term voltage stability
  • Countermeasures
  • General requirements

IT & Architecture Issues:

  • Modularity, interface programming and IT services
  • IT support

We would be pleased about broad participation. Please send your responses by email (excel document) to pmo_mccs_nextgen@50hertz.com.
